SJ Racing were busy once again at the Inglis Scone Sales in May. We bought another four top yearlings to add to the four we bought at the Magic Millions in January. With our visit to Scone this year we had three clear objectives in mind.
Firstly, we wanted to purchase the sister to our own KING LEAR. The KING recently had his first full preparation and he showed that he has the talent to be a very successful race horse.
KING LEAR has had 4 starts for 2 wins with those two wins by 4 and 2 lengths. We couldn’t let the opportunity slip by by not picking her up.
Secondly, we wanted to purchase two yearlings that will be forward enough in development to compete in the Inglis Classic for Two Year-Old next year at Scone in May.
We had 3 yearlings in mind and we rapt to have been able to purchase the STAR WITNESS and CHARGE FORWARD fillies. Both were on our initial list and we have high hopes for our owners that we can win the $100,000 race with either of the fillies.
Finally, we wanted to purchase an ANIMAL KINGDOM yearling at the reasonable price before his first crop of horses come through and race. We feel as a stallion he has the superior attributes that he can pass onto his offspring that will make them feared on the race track.
At the end of the day we were able to address all three objectives with our 4 yearlings. The quality of the breeding and the families that they come from will give our new owners the best possible chance for success on the track and once retired, success as broodmares.
STAR WITNESS – EXCEED AND EXCITE Filly
The first buy of the day was a smart STAR WITNESS – EXCEED AND EXCITE filly from the Widden Stud. The mare was a city class sprinter from EXCEED AND EXCELL and is a half sister to Group 1 winner CHOICE BRO. The filly was a standout for us where we see her racing as an early two year old in the shorter sprinting races.
ANIMAL KINGDOM – TUMBLE TURN Filly
An athletic ANIMAL KINGDOM – TUMBLE TURN filly was the second buy for the day. From Arrowfield Stud and coming from a REDOUTE’S CHOICE mare who raced in the Blue Diamond Preludes. Our filly has been bred to race over 1,200m to 1,600m. The family is littered with Group winners including FREESTYLE, ALIYANA TILDE and TEASPOON.
ALL AMERICAN – BAMBOLEAR Filly
Our third purchase, and most significant for the stable, was a half sister to our very own KING LEAR. The ALL AMERICAN – BAMBOLEAR filly is super athletic and comes from the same family as WANDJINA, MASKED PARTY, LUCKY UNICORN and DRACULA. The filly was sold out with the current owners of KING LEAR securing shares in our exciting new filly.
CHARGE FORWARD – IN THE CLEAR Filly
Finally, the last buy was a lovely filly by CHARGE FORWARD from IN THE CLEAR. The mare, a REDOUTE’S CHOICE, is a half sister to the Group 1 winning filly CLEAN SWEEP. The filly is one of the most advanced in the sale. We have purchased her with the $100,000 2 Year-Old Inglis Classic in mind for 2018.
