SJ Racing scored our first WA Metropolitan winner on Wednesday when BEAUTY KANAS beat home ROADRAGER in the last of the day.
Jumping from barrier 3, BEAUTY KANAS was ridden to perfection by Peter Knuckey to land just off the leader’s backs.
At the 500m Knuckey made his run with the mare hitting the lead 250m from home.
After being nearly headed at the 100m, the mare doggedly held on to win by less than half a length.
BEAUTY KANAS is our first foray into the Western Australian racing scene and it was great satisfaction to see her win the in the city.
She was purchased from the David Payne stable in Sydney in April this year and this is the first preparation for the mare in WA.
Now a three time winner, the mare will head back to Ascot in 2 weeks time over 1,400m.
“She’s a fantastic mare and as honest as they come.” Steve Rowe said after the race.
“BK thoroughly deserves the win after coming close previously at Ascot. We’re just so happy for her owners as well who all showed faith in purchasing her. She’s our first horse with SJ Racing so it was a bit of an unknown joining forces together.”
“With that win out of the way we’ll now be looking at adding winners in the new year. Our next horse coming through is TRIPLE JUMPER.”
“TRIPLE JUMPER is a two year-old MAGNUS gelding who will be racing in January. He looks a likely type as well and is showing great signs that he’ll make a nice race horse.”
SJ Racing and Rowe Racing will be heading back to the Magic Millions Sales in February. With the sale season just around the corner we can now secure more talent for the stable.
“We already have our eye on a couple of yearlings with very nice pedigrees. It’s exciting times for everyone at the moment and there’s a buzz in the stable and amoung our owners.”
